Mezquita-Catedral, Cordoba, Spain, 2001

The Mezquita-Catedral (Mosque-Cathedral) in Cordoba was my first real exposure to Moorish architecture and it blew me away. The place has been there for centuries, and has been a house of worship for two of the world's great religions. The area in this photo features the colorful arches and hall of columns. It is like something out of an Escher drawing. Seriously. Such a different concept of beauty than I (and most Western eyes) are used to, it's stunning and fascinating all at once.
