tape delay

Futurist speak so furtively about the power of technology, and how it is really creating a global village. On the one hand I believe them.

On the other hand I don’t. 70%+ of Americans have Internet access, but how far thru the floor does that figure drop when you talk about third-world countries? How can you talk about a bright future until you’ve gotten people to the present?

We - the modern Western World - may be in 2007, but I’ve been to places that look like they are still in 1950, and I imagine that there are broad swaths of Africa, China, and other places that are still - from a technology perspective - not yet in the 20th century.
